X Chess Championship among law enforcement and control authorities of the Kirov region

In February 2018 the Kirov section of IPA organized X Chess Championship, dedicated to the Defender’s Day in the chess club "Vyatka Rook".  Let us recall that the first tournament was held in 2009 on the initiative of the tax authorities.

This year 15 chess teams representing law enforcement and control authorities of the Kirov region competed in the tournament.  The competitions were held on the Swiss system in 7 rounds. The peculiarity of this system is that the tournament proceeds without elimination. Starting from the second round, the pairs of contestants are selected in accordance with equal number of points of the participants. Therefore, parties are excluded between obviously unequal in strength sportsmen that makes it possible to determine the winners by a small number of tours with a large number of participants. The course of the game was followed by the chief judge of the competitions, the president of the regional Chess Federation, Yevgeny Shamov.

Before the beginning of the tournament, the president of the KROO "Police Association" Nikolai Koshcheev welcomed all the participants.

For several hours the contestants were fighting with each other for the opportunity to get the winner's cup. As a result, in the overall team offset the team of Federal Penal Correction Service of the Kirov region won the first place. The second place was taken by the team of Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kirov region. Bronze winners were our colleagues from the first team of the KROO "Police Association".

It should be noted that a separate award for a worthy participation in the game was given to the representatives of the teams of the Kirov Regional Court, and one of them took the honorary third place in the individual competition.

The KROO "Police Association" hopes and expects that in future the good tradition of friendly meetings at the chessboard on the eve of the Day of Defender of the Fatherland will be preserved, and the skill of the players will be further developed!
