Meeting with Alexander Rahr

On April 23 in Kirov was a meeting with a political expert Alexander Rahr who was invited to our city by the president of the Kirov Department of the Russian Section of International Police Association Nikolay Koshcheev. Among the participants were members of the regional public chamber, journalists and public figures. The round table was devoted to modern social and political circumstances in Russia and in the world.

Alexander Rahr is a recognized expert in the international relations, the member of Valdai club, honorary professor of MGIMO University, the board member of YES (Yalta European Strategy), honorary professor of Higher School of Economics and a scientific director of the German-Russian Forum, Berlin.

It was a rare opportunity in our city to ask questions and to hear answers from the speaker of such level like this. That’s why there is no wonder that it was a meaningful and substantial dialogue. How will the world manage to face the challenges of today? What awaits the European Union in overcoming of populism and consequences of Brexit? What of two positions in viewpoints of European civilization will prevail: "Europe from Lisbon to Vladivostok" or "Europe from Lisbon to Donetsk" and how will Russia develop in the latter case? — It is only a part of subjects and questions, which were discussed at an informal meeting. Alexander Rahr answered in detail and professionally what in his opinion takes place and what will happen after.

It was symbolical that before the meeting Alexander visited Alexander Herzen's office and left a note in the distinguished visitors' book. Both Alexanders mentioned that to understand Russia you have to visit not only the capitals, but Russian backs as well. Also, Alexander Rahr visited office of Police Association in Kirov with which president he is connected by the long friendly relations. 

As a result, it was a memorable meeting with Alexander Rahr for all the participants, but also it was an opportunity to make an arrangement for carrying out social and political activities to Kirov.
